Borrowing Convergence equipment is a privilege, not a right, restricted to Convergence students.
There is a limited amount of equipment being used by nearly 300 students. For this reason there is a 3-hour time limit on use of the equipment.
Equipment checked out during the last three hours the lab is open is due the following day within the first 30 minutes of operation.
You must have your MU student ID with you when you check out equipment. We will not check out equipment to anyone without their student ID. You may not check in or out equipment using another student’s ID.
If you do not return your equipment on time, a $10.00 per hour fine will be charged to your university account until all of the equipment is returned. If you violate the rules multiple times, your privileges may be revoked.
This limit may be extended only with written permission from a Convergence faculty member. Extended permission must be requested and approved by a faculty member before you check out the equipment. To request extended permission, email email@example.com. When doing so, please use the following format for your email:
SUBJECT LINE: [First+Last name] extended permission
BODY OF THE EMAIL:
To whom it may concern:
Class I’m in: [ 7802 ]
Equipment request: [ Nikon D7000 ]
Pick up time: [ Monday, September 8 at 6:45 pm ]
Return time: [ Tuesday, September 9 at 11:00 am ]
Reason for request of extended checkout permission: [ I will be taking photos at the rehearsal for “The Sound of Music” for my 3 photos assignment for the 7802 course. Rehearsal begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Since the lab isn’t open before that, I need to pick up equipment the previous evening and will not be able to return it right when the lab opens the next morning. So I will be bring it back it on Tuesday by 11 a.m. ]
When you arrive to pick up equipment, be sure to tell the lab assistant that you have extended permission and be ready to give them the name of the faculty member who approved your extension.
Approval will be at the discretion of the faculty. Failure to secure approval will result in fines. Returning equipment later than the approved extension time will also result in fines.
If you are on an assignment and encounter a problem you should call the lab and explain the problem. Very few reasons will be accepted for late equipment. Any exceptions to this rule must go through Steve Rice or another faculty member.
At the beginning of each semester, you will be asked to fill out and sign a document accepting financial responsibility for any equipment you check out. Should it be broken, lost or stolen you will be expected to pay the costs of repair or replacement.
